It's all about Family

Bringing Wellingtonians together through our beautiful family photography is what we do best. What better way to record memories of a time and a place together than with a family portrait? Children grow up, leave home, we grow older and wiser...

Autumn is a Great time to have your Family Photographed

Woolf Photography photograph families all year round, however Autumn is where we photograph Family Groups outdoors as well as indoor locations. Families sometimes prefer a more relaxed laid back approach to outdoor locations, and we are happy to oblige. We also have our Central CBD City studio available too!

Autumn often sees rich colours and clear air for Outdoor Photography, while our Interior Location and Studio Photography remain popular too.

We have a April Family Group Special happening currently. Our location and studio sessions include a series of grouping and individual options, (Colour and or Black and White). A password protected website to view and order photos, two 20x25 cm enlargements, digital files from the two enlargements ordered, and an amazing 50% off our simple effective but stylish range of black or white frames. This Family Group Special is value packed at only $295.00, and can include after hours or weekend appointments. Please call for details and to book your session time.

Our Family Photography in Wellington is legendary. We have the experience and expertise to handle most requests and preferences. For every session booked in April, we will give you an additional two 20x25cm enlargements. That’s a great deal!

We are Family …A bit of NOSTALGIA!

In 1994 Photography by Woolf initiated a Fundraising Exhibition to celebrate The United Nations International Year of The Family. Over 50 diverse Families were photographed. Each Family had different dynamics, and represented most parts of New Zealand Society. The exhibition was held at The BNZ Centre, here in Wellington, and was opened by The Prime Minister The Right Hon Jim Bolger. He and his family were one of the families photographed for the exhibition!

UNICEF were the charity chosen to support, with the Woolf’s having a longstanding relationship in pro bono assignments and charity work for UNICEF.

The exhibition also had a number of firsts. Two families had difficulty having everyone together on the day of the sessions. 1994 and while Digital Imaging had just come to the fore, cameras hadnt! two families, The Wilde Family and The Klap Family had individuals photographed after the original sessions and added into their family photos. The separate images were flatbed scanned into Photoshop ( a very early version) and then manipulated and enhance to fit into their respective family groups. It was cutting edge stuff in 1994!

1995 and Kodak released their revolutionary Photo CD, a process for storing digital files in a number of formats. The Photography by Woolf Team scanned all the negatives from The 1994 International Year of The Family Exhibition onto a Photo CD, as we knew that at some stage in the future the images would need to be retrieved. The technology was supposed to be archival, and to a certain extent was. Nowadays you need to have kept older technology and software to be able to retrieve the images. Little did we know how difficult it would be o recover the photos.

We did it! Where there is a will there is a way.

The families in our original exhibition have all changed somewhat. There has been immense growth in some families, with additions and alterations, while other families have had members pass on, or leave the family unit for one reason or another.

A number of the families have had photos taken together in the interim. Our Family of Nun’s from The Sisters of Compassion had another group photo taken recently.

We wonder where some of the families are now, what they are doing, and how life has changed for them too. We would really love to know their stories and what has occurred with their families over the past 30 Years!

If you know, or recognise any of these families, or are in the groups please let me know. Thirty Years on we would really value being in touch. We will even shout our original Family Groups of 1994 Complimentary Family Photography updates.

The 1994 International Year of the Family Exhibition , We are Family was both challenging and inspiring. We are planning a 2024 version.

If you would like to apply to participate please also don’t hesitate to be in touch.

Woolf Photography helps you capture the memories, because every picture has a story to tell. Whether on location, in our Wellington studio, or in your home, our team will make each session relaxed and comfortable so that we can get the best out of you and your family. The booth family

The Booth Family came to Woolf Photography, knowing that their kids would be leaving home, and heading in different directions for study and job opportunities. Plimmerton is the area they have lived in, so it was agreed we would all head to the beach on last light, have some fun where the photos would be a mix of documentary and arranged casual shots. What was so neat about this shoot was Steve and Annemarie ( Mum and Dad) had their wedding photography taken by Ronald Woolf in 1986, ad Simon Woolf was photographing the next generation!

With it being last light on a clear blue sky day we were able to gain an array of lighting and background options, with Black and White Photography forming and integral portion of the thinking behind the shots which were taken.

We also love it when four legged members of the family get to be included in the photography. We so love keeping families together, even when they are split by distance!

The mansoor family

We thought we would showcase a full Family session, and some of the options we offer. “This Shoot”, with The Mansoor Family was heaps of fun, which is reflected in the photos. We went for it and nailed the session, with a range of different shots within 30 minutes. When dealing with Family groups which have children and/or animals you have to work seriously quickly to keep everyone in their comfort zones. The adage applies whether it is in the studio or on location! Pricing for sessions start at as little as $95.00.
